Packages of Awesome

I'll get to that in a minute.

Late last Wednesday night when I went to put the cat's outside, I discovered that Princess had saliva streaming/dripping from her mouth nonstop. Clearly something that's not supposed to happen, so I kept her inside and informed my parents of it the next morning. It hadn't stopped when I left to babysit Thursday morning, nor when I checked her out Thursday evening. To add to it, she also was moving rather slowly, kind of walking unbalanced, and had ridiculously dilated pupils. So with great worry, we called the vet and asked if there was anything we could do until we could bring her in, if this could possibly get picked up by the other cats, etc. Friday after dad and I had finished work and babysitting, respectively, we took Princess to the vet in Prescott and got her checked out- she actually was looking much better, though hadn't eaten. Her various levels were off and the vet told us that it was probably an issue with her kidneys. We could hospitalize her for 48 hours ($600-800 yikes!) and pump her with fluids or try a sub-Q fluid set-up at home (closer to $20) and if she showed improvement, ie started eating and drinking, awesome. If not, then it was most likely degenerative kidney disease and there isn't really anything to do.

None of us were too thrilled with the prospect of giving Princess the fluids- Mom gets sick with needles, I don't like seeing them going into people/animals, and Dad's not real dextrous- but we lucked out and Carly happened to stop by the first time we were attempting to do this and offered to help. Thank goodness. In her amazing generosity, she helped us every time. Monday morning was the last time and thankfully Princess has been doing a lot better. She's eating and drinking- not as much as previously, maybe- and just seems to look and act pretty much like herself.

So that was the big worry.

This week I only babysat Monday, so the rest of the week is open to figuring out what I'm doing for the rest of the week. :)

Sometime over the weekend (Saturday night maybe?), I painted my nails in my Halloween celebratory fashion and I'm proud to say that they glow in the dark as well as generally look pretty awesome.

I've been trying to decide what to be for Halloween, so yesterday I was going through our old costumes, most of which are from when we were much younger. That didn't stop me from trying on many items, including the hood from my tiger costume I wore when I was maybe 5. :) Much laughter ensued.

I also happened to find two Superman capes from when my brothers were really little, one of which my mother mentioned would probably be just about the right size to fit the cats. Conveniently, right after this, Yin came inside. She is the only cat I would really dare do this with, as a) she wouldn't kill me and b) she probably wouldn't care too much, either. So while she was eating, I slipped it over and sure enough, she didn't even seem to notice what I'd done. And she looked rather humorous, particularly at one point when she suddenly stood erect and looked around as though she'd heard a cry for help. Very laughable. Guess you had to be there.

Now, on to the title subject!

Today when I checked the mail, I found one of the keys they give you when you have a package, so I unlocked the box and lo and behold, the package was for me! Even better, it was from my roommate Kirsten! I was very excited, indeed.

However, I could not prepare myself for the awesomeness that was waiting for me inside the box. I opened it to discover........A STEGOSAURUS PENCIL SHARPENER!!! THAT WALKS!!! AND IS SHINY!!!

As if this wasn't enough, there was also a cute Halloween card with a note from Kirsten, a How To Train Your Dragon pencil, and a package of erasers shaped like teeth that all have little faces that vary depending on the extremity of their cavities. ^-^ so happy!!!

Here's the contents of the Package of Awesome:

Also, I've got a shirt that's really cute but is wayyyy too big (XXL), but I remembered in one of my Shojo Beats (a magazine I subscribed to. sadly no longer in print) they had instructions for fitting such shirts. So I spent a good portion of today going through all my past issues trying to find the one that had these instructions, and in the process also set aside those with other DIY projects I thought looked interesting.

What I'm getting at here? I'm going to hopefully start doing some of these projects and will also hopefully post my workings. So yeah.

Tomorrow we're going to Prescott for my mom's various post-surgery check-ups and a few other errands. My mission is to keep my eye out for supplies for these so-called projects, including a couple more ties for my previously mentioned tie skirt, and things I can use for my Halloween costume. Y'know, once I figure out what I'm doing about that.

Things I'm looking forward to in the near future:

Going to Prescott tomorrow
Kjersten's Halloween party this Friday/Saturday
Carving my pumpkins!

I said I wasn't very good at this.

Though for the last while, I really don't have too good of an excuse. Well, kinda. I don't really get on the internet until later in the evening, and then I'm usually just checking things before bed. Aside from that, I have rather ample time, so......yeah.

Not a whole lot to write about, anyway. What I usually say these days is "I feel like such a bum!" I've tried finding work here in town, but nothing's really happening. I filled out all the paperwork necessary to get an Emergency Substitute Certificate so that I could be a substitute teacher for the lower grades at the school, but apparently the fingerprint card I have isn't the same as the one they want, so I have to get the Identity Verification one.....'cause my current government issue card w/ prints clearly doesn't verify my identity. Right... ¬_¬

So now in order to get these other prints done, I'll have to pay another $69 in addition to the original $60 I had to pay for the certificate. I'm basically at the point of waffling over whether or not it's worth all the hassle. Blah.

Meantime, I've pretty much just been doing things around the house. Running errands, cleaning/organizing my room...We've pretty much thrown it out to the ward that I'm available for odd jobs and in dire need, so I've done a couple things; cleaned for Sister Stearns and currently babysitting for the Quists when they're both working, so that's fun.

I admit I find myself getting wishywashy periodically, I blame lack of peers. Pretty much all of my friends who were here don't live here anymore, so I don't really see anyone. I don't get out much. That, and, with all the fairly free time I have, I have all this time to think about my friends, etc. And then I go and say stuff like this and I sound all pitiful and "woe is me." Don't get me wrong, I like being home and being with my family, but I'm definitely missing school and my friends.

Well, done with that. I have noble intentions of a couple of projects, so here's hoping on those! I want to shorten a jean skirt I have and I've been collecting neckties in the hopes of making a tie skirt- I'm very close with this. For a while I was also entertaining the thought of offering beginning ballroom lessons here in town, but due to particulars like where to do it and not really getting a whole lot of feedback as far as if people would actually go for it or not, that's pretty much fallen by the wayside. Hmm, what else? Um.......I've got my China stuff all in one shoebox now. The ultimate goal there is to scrapbook, but considering that my life scrapbook is still stuck in 7th grade.........well, we'll see. Oh, yes, and I have lots of cross stitching and at least one needlepoint to finish. So if I actually get down to it, I guess I really could be keeping myself busy.

Guess I'd better hush up, then.

Oh, and after having the same pair since 6th grade, I have finally gotten a new pair of glasses! I enjoy being able to see again.

Naturally, I'd decide to start a blog at 1am...

'Cause that's just how I roll.

Honestly, though, I've been considering starting a blog for some time now, but never allowed the idea to come to fruition. Well, here you have it. Who knows how often I shall update it-probably only in the wee hours of the morning when I should be sleeping or working on something- but I will attempt to do an adequate job of chronicling the amazing adventures that are my collegiate life.

A Brief Explanation of the title:

At the beginning of last year or so, two of my good guy friends were debating on spirit animals for people. Mine was decided to be a mouse, as I'm generally "small and cute" like a mouse. >w< Ok. Since then, I have been consistently referred to/introduced as "Mousie/Mousey" (Personally, I prefer the Mousie spelling).

Along with this prestigious title came a theme song (who knew?), the chorus of which is the namesake for my newly christened blog.

If you don't think you can stand the entire thing (understandable), it should be at about 3:43.

ANYwho, sleep is swiftly coming for me, which is just as well; I must be well-rested for my first class. What class is this, you may ask? FENCING. Oh yeah. My roommates, Katelyn and Kirsten, and I all took the class last block, and have stayed for second block as sort of advanced students, I suppose. Mostly our instructor has had us coaching the new students, which we refer to as our padawans. Yes, we do consider ourselves Jedi Masters in this case. Since the three of us are taking the class together, we're able to help each other wake up for the class (it's technically 7:45, though we don't have to be there until 8). Normally this works, but this last Wednesday all three of us managed to sleep in, which is a first. It should be interesting to see what our padawans have to say tomorrow. Mine are a special case, though: while the others periodically switch around who they instruct for the day, I have a set group of padawans- the lefties. I admit I've taken to referring to myself as Lord of the Lefties.

To summarize: mouse, theme song, fencing, padawans, sleep.
